CHALLENGE EVENTS Welcome to our Events Programme! We have events taking place throughout the year – from trekking in the Sahara to skydiving – there is something for everyone. So come and take part in a challenge, have great fun and raise funds to give thousands of young people the chance of a healthy life. Click on the links below to find out more about a specific event. For more information on any of our events, please email Nicky Morgan. Why we need your helpAlmost half of the world’s population is under the age of 25[1], 85 % of whom live in developing countries. 11.1 million young people in developing countries between the ages of 15-24 are living with HIV or AIDS[2] and 59 million are unemployed[3]. In rural communities in developing countries, many young people are unable to access information and services which could safeguard their health and improve their lives. Many are unaware of the relationship between water and disease, the principles of basic nutrition or how HIV is transmitted. Addressing these issues is crucial if young people are to be given the best chance in life, SPW works with young people in rural communities in Africa and Asia to do this. SPW volunteers deliver important health and environmental information in a way that engages young people and act as catalysts for change amongst their peers. As role models and by using interactive games they build young people’s knowledge, skills and self confidence, enabling them to make positive decisions about health and environmental issues affecting their lives.
