VOLUNTEER WITH SPW

If you can teach one person to protect themselves from HIV and AIDS, you might be able to change a life.

If you can empower a group of people to change their lives, you might be able to change a community. How far do you want to go?

Would you like to be an SPW volunteer?

Are you looking to take a year off?

Are you enthusiastic and willing to learn new skills? Are you keen to broaden your understanding of different cultures? Are you open-minded, adventurous, flexible, and reliable? Are you passionate about wanting to make a difference?

You could be an SPW volunteer.

SPW currently has more than 1000 Volunteer Peer Educators reaching over 400,000 young people each year.

What makes volunteering with SPW different?

  • Training: Learn grassroots development skills during one month of comprehensive training.
  • Support: Benefit from SPW’s full support during fundraising, training and placement phases.
  • Non-formal Education: Use sports, music, drama, arts and debate to open a dialogue with youth and get them actively involved in learning about health and environmental issues.
  • Partnership: Live and work in teams with volunteers from the local community and host country.
  • Sustainability: Work hand-in-hand with local people to build solid relationships using local resources and maximize their capacity to effectively address issues facing youth, even after SPW leaves the community.

What will you get out of it? You will:

  • Discover skills you never thought you had and learn plenty of new ones!
  • Experience working with a grassroots non-governmental organisation.
  • Gain valuable insight into the reality facing developing countries in the struggle against AIDS and poverty
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of health and environmental issues
  • Form lasting friendships
  • Improve your CV and find a stepping stone towards a career in international development
  • Immerse yourself in a new culture and experience a new language

What SPW volunteers do not need:

  • Specialist skills or work experience
  • Experience of living or travelling overseas
